Veneers

Porcelain veneers:

Veneers are ultra-thin shells of enamel-like porcelain that are handcrafted by master dental ceramists and permanently bonded to the front of the teeth.  Veneers are a popular treatment option for several reasons.

They generally are placed in front of teeth that are severely discolored, poorly shaped or slightly crooked.  Veneers may be used to lighten front teeth that are naturally yellow or have a gray cast and cannot be whitened by bleaching.  Veneers are sometimes used to correct teeth that are chipped or worn.  They also may be used to correct uneven spaces or a gap.

How are veneers done?

The dental veneer procedure can be completed in two dental visits over the course of a few weeks.  The visits are comprehensive and can require several hours of examination and tooth preparation.

The examination stage of the veneer process is essential; it determines any oral health concerns that must be addressed before treatment progresses.  Also Dr. Shayestehfar will work with the patient to select the best tooth color from a special shade chart.  As a part of this process, the doctor may recommend teeth whitening before the patient begins the veneer treatment to achieve the best results.

Based on diagnostic wax-up models, Dr. Shayestehfar will determine dimensions of porcelain veneers and then conclude how much the tooth structure needs to be altered.

Next, Dr. Shayestehfar will make an impression of the patient’s teeth from which a mold of your mouth will be made.  At this point Dr. Shayestehfar will take several digital photos utilizing digital camera to communicate to the master ceramist the desired results.  Along with impressions, the digital photos are sent to the ceramist so the veneers can be professionally fabricated under the instructions of Dr. Shayestehfar.

Since there is an approximately two week period during which the master ceramist must fabricate the veneers, during which the temporary veneers are fabricated and fitted.  The temporaries will give the patient a preview of the expected outcome and also help the doctor identify adjustments that may be needed during the fabrication of the permanent veneers.

During the second office visit, the doctor will remove the patient’s temporaries and begin the process of filling the permanent veneers.  Dr. Shayestehfar will spend a great deal of time ensuring  an optimal fit and fine tuning the color match with special dental cement to make certain of a perfect color match to deliver you a smile that’s never looked better!
